We believe that creative learning positively impacts young people and their communities.

Our Approach

Those who are disproportionately excluded include young people with experience of the care system, trauma, mental health issues, neurodivergence, and insecure family, economic life and immigration status (No More Exclusions 2021; Timpson Review 2019). Furthermore, Kent has a disproportionately high rate of children with special educational needs.

Our Theory of Change

We try to be as responsive as we can to the affects of social and educational inequality. Our theory of change outlines what we see at the underlying structural and systemic issues that impact young people’s experiences of education. We recognise that particular groups are disproportionately affected by these systems and we believe that true creativity exists in the margins so we seek to work with marginalised communities to resist this prevailing narrative.

The Characteristics of Creative Learning

What does creative learning look like?

We have developed a framework to establish the appropriate language that describes what happens at AEE through a rich, reflexive process with young people and a team of dedicated and specialist practitioners. It is our blueprint, albeit a 'live' and dynamic blueprint for how we work with young people. The framework is universal but particularly geared towards working with young people, who have complex support needs. Through this approach young people direct their own learning and gain agency and autonomy.

Learning stages

Each young person’s learning journey is different. We have created a structure that allows young people to direct their own learning with the support to progress.
