Jenson’s AEE Journey

Jenson Foster joined Arts Education Exchange on our SOUNDeSCAPES programme in summer 2022. Before then, he had only listened to music, not created any.

“I didn’t really write [music] to be honest, I only really listened to it. Then I started playing my dad’s guitar and that started it.”

Now a talented multi-instrumentalist, Jenson found community and developed his musical ‘voice’ during SOUNDeSCAPES. His favourite piece of music that he’s made with us happened during the summer programme - aptly named Onion because “There were loads of layers to it!”.

After the summer, Jenson went on to join regular music sessions with our Music Lead Joe Kondras, and our Music Assistant Tom Postgate. He started studying a music GCSE at school, and decided to carry on playing guitar, drums, and occasionally bass with us to see how far he could push his musical ability.

Describing a particular favourite session, Jenson explains what made his song sound so good:

“It just sounded really clean, there was a guitar effect that sounded good because it went through both speakers - it sounded like a full on surround [sound].”

Over a year later, Jenson is keen to get his music out into the world. He’s been able to build on his passion by learning how to record and produce his own music under the guidance of Joe and Tom.

“I’d probably say Joe and Tom have helped quite a lot, because a few months ago before the summer, I felt quite low all the time, and coming here and making music in the studio made me have something to look forward to during the week.”

We’re wishing Jenson good luck in his music GCSE, and we’re 1000% sure that he will fly high as a musician in the future!
