Our Strategy and Values

We have adapted principles from “emergent Strategy: shaping change, changing worlds’  by adrienne maree brown. She says…

The large replicates the small

Change is constant

Move at the speed of trust

Create more possibilities

What you pay attention to grows

As part of our co-creation strategy process, we created the following values, which underpin and direct all the work we do.

These have been built by staff, young people and trustees.

  • Agency

We trust each other to think creatively and make decisions. When we make mistakes, we learn from them.

  • Sustainability

We understand that to flourish creatively, we need long-term programmes and progression opportunities.

  • Empathy

Our differences can connect us when we engage in curiosity and empathy.

  • Equity

To strive towards equity¹, we recognise each other’s intersectionality². We nurture critical thinking and offer a space to slow down, reflect and heal.

  • Care

We centre care, creating spaces where young people feel protected, respected, and supported to grow.

¹The term “equity” refers to fairness and justice and is distinguished from equality. Equality means providing the same to all, equity means recognising that we do not all start from the same place and must acknowledge and make adjustments to imbalances.

²Intersectionality: A term coined by Kimberlé Crenshaw. The ways in which systems of inequality based on gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, class and other forms of discrimination “intersect” to create unique dynamics and effects (Centre for Intersectional Justice USA).

Our strategy and values are not fixed or static, we use monthly team sessions to creatively check in on and adjust our practice as needed in an ongoing, collaborative and reflective way.
