Exchange

Our Learning Exchange Network seeks to develop meaningful partnerships with organisations, institutions and individuals to further expand our work with and for young people.

University of Kent, Open School East, Turner Contemporary, Quarterdeck, Royal Harbour Academy, and Enterprise Learning Alliance.
University of Kent

We began conversations with Dr Trude Sundberg and Dr Rachel Seoighe in 2021 and have since developed a rich conversation and partnership, which aims to develop radical approaches to evaluation with young people, who are marginalised and minoritised. Through our exchange we have critically examined how we evaluate and developed a creative evaluation toolkit, which centres young people in the process of describing change over time and understanding what really makes a difference.

Turner Contemporary

We have teamed with Turner Contemporary to deliver an innovative and far reaching learning programme for young people, who are vulnerable to school and social exclusion.

We have combined extensive experience and resources to offer a bespoke programme of arts and creative learning from the renowned sea front gallery. Over the course of the two year programme young people will access a range of exciting opportunities to discover and expand their interests and aspirations with an experienced team of educators, artists and an art therapist, who will support the development of personalised curricular.

This project is kindly supported by The Mildred Fund.

Royal Harbour Academy

An exciting new partnership has been established with local secondary school, Royal Harbour Academy. AEE will be joining a range of specialist teachers and therapists in their new ‘Hub’, providing inclusive support for young people, who are experiencing barriers to learning in their mainstream context. Our Creative Learning Tutor will develop a range of 1:1 and small group interventions and projects to support their holistic approach to education.

Powell Cotton Museum. Quex House and Gardens.

Arts Education Exchange are collaborating with the Powell-Cotton Museum in Birchington as part of their ‘re-imaging project’ which is ‘committed to telling a wider story, to enable others to share in that narrative and be a part of it's making’. We are working with a group of young people to creatively respond to artefacts within the museum’s collection. The work that is created during the project will be shown at the open event when the museum reopens to the public next year in 2023.

Quarterdeck Youth Hub

As part of our new outreach strategy we have partnered with Quarterdeck Youth Hub to deliver music and visual arts sessions every week. During these ‘taster sessions’ a whole range of young people are building relationships with our staff and signing up to longer term, more in depth learning at AEE.

Anna Cutler

Through an ongoing programme of training, consultancy and coaching Anna Cutler, former Director of Learning and Research at Tate, has supported AEE to develop systems and processes to manage our organisational growth. Significantly she guided our team to create our framework for learning and evaluation, The Characteristics of Creative Learning.

Lacuna. An unfilled space; a gap.

Lacuna is developed and led by 3 Margate based arts and learning organisations:

Arts Education Exchange, Open School East and Turner Contemporary.

The network is aimed at teachers and educators across the region to share and develop their knowledge and approach to creative learning. Underpinned by creativity, curiosity and critical thinking and making use of the cultural context of Thanet. We aim to invite an open dialogue across sectors and communities, building on the area's rich tapestry of history and innovation to nurture a culture of learning. With our joined up expertise, knowledge and resources in social practice, education and access we want to open up opportunity, discourse and practice.
