Community is the Curriculum

On the 12th July we hosted another Lacuna event, where we shared our creative learning approach to other educators and artists.

The first activity demonstrated a comparison between goal oriented learning and self directed experimentation, where participants were asked to create popsicle stick structures within time limits.

The second activity asked participants to come up with an art activity within the parameters of our Space / Time / Content / Method framework, that would also include 3 key words from our 'Characteristics of Learning'. These were keywords such as Joy, Curiosity, Agency, and Empathy.

It was a joy to see educators and artists engage with our framework, and to see the critical thinking, and experimentation that emerged from their interpretations of the activities.

Lacuna is developed and led by 3 Margate based arts and learning organisations: Arts Education Exchange, Open School East and Turner Contemporary. The network is aimed at teachers and educators across the region to share and develop their knowledge and approach to creative learning.
